Personally, I don't care if it is written for those environments.

Then why go to the trouble of setting up a poll on your site? Polls are usually created because the creator wants to know the outcome; although
there is the 'Slashdot' exception in which they're created because some people want to press pretty buttons and other want to complain that the CowboyNeal option has been axed.

Don't know now (I was half hyped up when I did it, the question is
    hopeless -
unfortunately I cannot change this), maybe I'm in the wrong place & should
just nick off. Unfortunately it's the rules which this newsgroup defines
    that's
the problem. Maybe it should have been called comp.sys.amstrad/ibm_users.8/16bit
    or comp.sys.cbm/ibm_users or comp.sys.sinclair/ibm_users?

Unfortunately the Windozing fanatic failed to realise that (s)he was
    posting
in newsgroups made for Amstrad CPC computers (not Amstrad IBM compatible PCs), Commodore users & Sinclair users. They should have posted this
    stuff
    into a Windows newsgroup.

The post in question had the subject "Which 8 bit computer titles should
be updated?" and did not *once* mention Windows. It was about making up-to-date versions of classic 8-bit games, and as all of the froups
posted to were for people who used 8-bit systems, I'd say the post was fantastically on-topic (especially for CSS, where flamewars discussing whether cheese n onion should be green or blue are more common). The
fact that you think the phrase

"I would love to see Dizzy, Rainbow Islands, St Dragon, Battle Command, Midnight Resistance, Plotting, Silkworm, SWIV, Mutants, Chase HQ and
WEC Le Mans brought bang up to date!"

Lets say you're right & that it's all about updating the 8bit versions, It depends on which system you're using I suppose. On the Amstrad Rainbow
Islands, Midnight Resistance, Silkworm, Chase HQ & WEC Le Mans are "still"
very good games. Broadly speaking it's really a matter of taste.
Unfortunately if everyone had an input towards changing it, then it maybe
for the worse! :-) It's perfectly reasonible to discuss it here, but
posting vague threads telling everyone to update this & that without
further information is asking for trouble (they should read the google
    guide towards posting messages).

is an example of Windows zealotry suggests that you don't know much
about modern computing - have a look at my headers. But then, what's to
stop people creating 'bang up to date' versions of 8 bit games on 8 bit boxen? I mean, if you created a Speccy or CPC compatible using the
z8encore! processor, then you'd have a 50MHz system. Or you could even
write the update on the original computer, bringing it up to date as
regards the setting, fixing bugs, changing the graphics a la
hijackulator, etc. For instance, Carrier Command could become Patriot Command, Caverns of Chaos could be remade as Caverns of Al-Qaida
    Resistance, etc. etc.

You could, but wouldn't that be a hassle?

It could well be that they are looking to update their 8bit games & I'm
just somebody suck in the thread saying, 'well hang on, what's the point?'

They wished to be vague when posting their comments, there is no denying
that, they should have posted their question more properly. Reading the
posting guide in Google Groups should help them.

If however there is no suitable Windows group,
then they can put in a request with their ISP (who will contact the
    right
people) & create a newsgroup which is suitable for discussions on Old
    games
for Windows. Sorry if I sound so rude about this, but this has just gone
    too
    far.

One usually goes through posting RFCs, CFVs etc in order to create a new newsgroup; all you have to do as regards your ISP is contact them to ask
them to carry it on their feed once you have the group up-and-running.
But Windows has its own newsgroup(s) over at news.microsoft.com, which
is a publically accessible, unmoderated feed.
As regards it going too far, Weetomuncher created *one* post, which you misinterpreted and decided to take on a holy war. So who was
responsible for it going too far?

Yes, I am sorry for that. Unfortunately, (s)he did properly carefully think this through. Unfortunately for me I've just jumped the gun as usual!
    Sorry!! :-(
