IIRC, the CD32 was released in early 1993. Maybe you're referring to
CDTV if it was much earlier than that?

I clearly remember the design :) It is this one: http://www.silicium.org/console/cd32.htm
    I was 10 in 1993 so it matches :-)

I think the CD32 stayed as long as the desktop Amigas (until the end
    of Commodore, that is).

I am afraid it wasn't much of a success in Italy...

If it was smashed by something, it might've been the new Sony console,
    the Playstation in .. 1994?

Playstation is *that* early? Oh dear... time flies! :-)
I thought it was more recent. *Gosh*

Whatever happened to it? I guess it was smashed out by Sega Megadrive
    and the SNES?

    No.

Smashed out by Commodore's management ineptitude.

Don't forget that a period of hype precedes a console launch and can crush competition by just a mere rumour (well sometimes).

    Oh... I supposed it :-(

In fact the marketing wasn't very powerful, at least if memory
    serves me well...

It was smashed by Commodore management.

By then they didn't have enough money to build them! They'd have sold like hotcakes that christmas, but the supply was nowhere near the demand.
