    Hi Glenn,

There are a few people working on getting Modem Wars to work over the
Internet, using PC's to 'bridge' between the 64s and a TCP/IP connection.
I don't know how far it's gotten, watch this group for details. Search back
a bit as well to see what's been discussed before.

    Regards
    Leif

Does this only work for Dial Up modems, or would a DSL line do?

I don't see how that would help. How would one use Modem Wars with telnet
in any case??? You'd still have to connect to a modem, even if it's at an ISP...

    Hi Glenn,

The way I envision it working wouldn't use Telnet or a modem at all.

-Connect the C64 and a PC through a VIC 1011a (or equivalent) and a null modem cable. (Opponent does the same)

-A custom program on the PC would "look" like a modem to the C64 and Modem Wars.
It would answer all the AT commands that Modem Wars sent.

-Then, when the game started, this program would forward the game data that Modem
Wars sent, encapsulated in TCP/IP packets, the opponent's PC elsewhere on the Internet.

-On the remote opponent PC, it would send the game data to the C64 connected to it. And so on. Neither end would (in theory) realize that it wasn't working over
    a real modem.

    Is that clearer? :-)

There are some programs that do this already to some degree, check out http://telbbs.lz.st for more info.

    Regards
    Leif
