• My menu bar has disappeared

Hi all again - I've encountered another newbie problem. I played a
game today and when I quit the game, my menu bar (what is the name of
that bar of applications at the bottom of your screen?) has vanished.

I don't even know if the applications I had left running before I
started the game are still running. Though when I run top from the
terminal I can see some of them running. However, if I run "ps -e" I
can only see one program - the bash shell I'm using.

I figure a restart will fix my problems - but I was wondering if anyone
had any magic fix for when this happens so I don't need to bother with
a restart. Or even better, a logical reason for why this has happened
(other than "it is a Mac bug).

    Thanks,
    Novice

    6TC1-

It may be a bug with the game rather than the Mac. It is possible that
the Dock setup was changed by the game.

If you go to Applications and run System Preferences, you can set up the
Dock the way you want it. Options include choosing the left or right side instead of the bottom. It can be hidden so it only appears when you run
    the cursor over it.

A way to tell what other programs are running, as well as to move between
them, is to hold down the Command key (open-apple or cloverleaf) while
pressing the Tab key. Each press of the Tab moves to the next program.

If anything else appears to have been messed-up, you might be experiencing
some corruption of the OS and need to restart. It may be rare, but does happen.

If you haven't realised from the last answer, the bar at the bottom of
the screen is the Dock. The menu bar runs across the top of the creen.

Launch "Help" clicking top menu, type "dock", you will get many info.

Or launch "system preferences" and click "dock", click "automatically
show hide dock" to make it visible again.

Sometimes logging out and logging back in will solve weird problems like
this, with no need for a restart.

My wife has a couple of games on her Mac that drive me crazier.

At least, two of them have no provisions to quit from the menubar.

Ya gotta quit - from the selection on the game's screen - and /then/ do whatever you wanted to do.

I've been told by a not-very-reliable source that this is a "feature" - so
one can't automagically stop the precious game just because you want it gone
    - rather than a "bug".
