Using OS 10.1.5 on an iMac, with a 56K modem
When I was using OS 9.2.2, my Earthlink connection speed was generally >somewhere between 45K and 49K. I believe 49333 bps was the fastest speed >ever attained.
I switched to using OSX in recent months, and have noticed that my >connection speed is now usually around 24K-26K! 21K is not uncommon
either, and ditto for *19K*. And when I "luck" into hitting a speed in
the lofty 30s, the connection seems unstable and prone to drop within 10 >minutes or so.
Any suggestions what the problem might be? How to correct it? I have my >modem properly selected in the Network preferences, as far as I know.
I've also experimented with various dial-up numbers, to no avail. I'm
really feeling this speed deficit, when websurfing and >attachment-downloading.
Maybe a weblink to show me that the modem initialization string is
correct?

Exactly what do you have specified for the modem?
