I've been asking the idle question in these parts for some 25 years to
my very great educational advantage. I still check most days to see if
other threads provide information that will overlap with my needs.
Over the past five years it's diminished in its yield dramatically.

It makes me wonder if there is an equivalent, limited I'm quite sure to
a different internet mindset, on Facebook or other. With the odd
technical question, frankly I can't find any other place to ask but
    here on usenet.

    Any tips appreciated.

While I gave up Facebook two years ago, a version of a group I was part of
that could be highly technical moved to Facebook. The discussions tended to be less technical as those using Facebook to access the content weren't technical themselves. You have to be technical enough to find News groups which are slowly dieing. If all you know is the browser as "The Internet", then forums that deal with technical topics like how to root an iPhone or port Linux to Apple's M1 are on to high a shelf for most to reach.

I'd look to technical podcasts like @EngineerMan or others for more meat and potatoes discussions. I've heard Discourse is a place where you can find technical discussions but they're usually run by individuals or companies. And heavily moderated. You say something they don't like, and you're out of there and any trace you might leave wouldn't fit in a cell on a GeneChip.

Discourse or maybe Git forums for specific stuff. If you have an Apple Developer account, try their groups.
