I thought Apple was going to rid all macs of such capabilities? Why did they change their mind.

they;re not new. the os 9 booting ones are still the old MDD models (ie no airport extreme, no firewire 800 etc...)

It was you. They finally listened. Didn't you hear? The new Power Mac
G5s are all coming with SuperDrives as standard, so they'll be able to
read and write 800KB _and_ 1.4MB floppy disks.

To create a new standard it takes something that's not just a little
bit different. It takes something that's really new and really captures people's imagination. And the Macintosh, of all the machines I've ever
seen, is the only one that meets that standard.

Thatīs not enough, they still need to bring back all legacy ports, so we
can use our ADB keyboards and mice and external 5 1/4" floppy drives
etc. Not to forget SCSI, NuBus slots and other means to connect all the oh-one-simply-cannot-live-without-this-piece-of-hardware. LocalTalk?
    Please, we need that too!

Yeah, Mac OS X sucks, i hope the new powermacs will be able to boot the original System 1.0. Fits on half a 400k floppy, none of the bloat OS X
    has.

Yeah, those, too, along with 5 1/4" disks, punch cards, and that awful
tape that got your pants all oily if you put a roll in your pocket.
    Even 78 rpm phonograph records.
