• Lost my mail program...can I reinstall Mail 2.0

I managed to screw something up on my G5, 10.4.6......Mail no longer
will open. I was trying to fix spell check and decided to try
Pacifist--to reinstall an older version of mail off of a G5 install
disc--with the idea I could update to the lastest version via
software update. Basically, I was trying to burn down the barn to
get rid of the rats. I did. I thought I "updated" the mail package
with Pacifist, but the result was that Mail acts like it is opening
(icon flashes briefly) and then nothing. Please help. Can you
    reinstall just Mail 2.0?

Try the Software Restore disc that came with your computer. You should
be able to do a Custom Install of just Mail.

Get the "combo update" if you have broadband. You _should_ have it
handy as Pacifist states "make sure to run latest system update after restoring" in readme file. (something like that)

    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1046comboforppc.html

Thing is, the "application" you restored is written for/on 10.4.0
linking to its libraries. After applying "combo", you will see it works.

    No need to "format" etc.
