I have the plain vanilla Newswatcher for my MacBook. Not terribly impressed since it doesn't seem to have easy ways to catch-up and
can't append signatures, etc. from my file. So, what do the paid for version add for the money and are there any other suggestions. I
have been using NewsXpress for the PC.

Get MT Newswatcher 3.4; it's freeware. So far as I know, there is no paid-for version of Newswatcher.

MT-Newswatcher is not stable on Intel Macs, though. It'll work, but it crashes randomly. I haven't decided on an alternative yet.

Simon Fraser is working on a Universal build for MT-Newswatcher.
The basic core seems to be stable -- but the bits and pieces are
    still broken.

    Should be available soon.

It's actually donationware. As nebulous as that sounds, it's required of
him to make it so. I can't believe that he wouldn't appreciate a
donation if you can spare it.

Leonard is pointing out that Simon can't sell MT-NW. The core code for NewsWatcher was written by John Norstad and the copyright requires that derivative software can't be sold for profit. But you can support MT-NW
by making a voluntary donation to Simon to defray the expenses he has in
terms of time and Web server space to make the program available to us
    lucky people.

The more money we donate, the more time Simon can afford to put into
MT-NW, the more development he can do especially to clear up some of the
odd little niggles and to make a Universal binary, etc.

BTW, as a PPC Mac user can I just say "yuck" about Universal binaries?
I hated fat binaries when Apple went from the 68xxx chips to the RISC architecture. I don't like them now. Fortunately there are some
applications to strip out the code that is useless for PPC computers.

You can say what you like, but if we didn't have universal binaries we'd
just be hastening the day when developers didn't bother with PPC builds anymore. Not to mention the confusion of people who couldn't figure out
if they should download the PPC or the Intel version of an application,
and then didn't understand why it didn't work for them.
