• Pioneer DVR-111 Mac OS X supported?

Is there anybody out there that can check if the new Pioneer DVR-111 High
Speed DVD-R/RW/RAM, +R/RW, CD-R/RW Writer (Bulk Drive) is supported by Mac
OS X, probably the latest 10.4.6? If one has such a drive, one checks if
it is Mac OS X supported by connecting it to a Mac, then going into System Profiler, checking "Disc Burning", to see if it says in the field
      Burn Support:  Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)

    Go to:
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/
and search the drive database. Some people are using the 111 but require Patchburn. The 110 dual layer burner is supported in Tiger out of the
    box (got one recently).

I have the 110D and it isn't supported, but it works. I had to use
PatchBurn to get the MacOS X frameworks to recognize that it could burn
disks. Disk Utility and Toast 6.09 work just fine with it. I haven't
tried trying to burn with iTunes since I applied the PatchBurn mods.

So, extrapolating on that, I'd guess that the 111 isn't supported. Why
not buy one, test it, and let us know what you discover?

The 110D is now fully supported (Tiger) without any requirement for
Patchburn. It Boots, burns, supports the iApps etc out of the box. In
System Profiler under Burning it says: Yes(Apple Shipped/Supported).
Mine is showing Firmware Revision 1.37

Yes, got "Formac" external firewire here, it says "supported/shipped" too.

According to another thread, it is supported in Mac OS 10.4.6, buut not
earlier Mac SO X versions. So you need to update your Mac OS X.

The thing it depends on which Mac OS 10.4.x version. The 100D is,
according to another thread, supported in Mac OS 10.4.6 but not earlier versions.

So then my question is not: "is 111 supported in Tiger", but "is 111
    supported in 10.4.6".

My firmware is 1.08 and showed up as No(Unsupported) under System
Profiler's Burning. Yet it worked with Disk Utility and Toast. It
didn't work with Impression until I applied PatchBurn, rebooted, and
    wiped the Impression preferences files.

<irony>Why asking somebody for free, when you can pay money to find out?</irony>

If you have a Mac which admits two drives, then you can put it in, and
check: it will probably be supported by some later Mac OS X, even it would
not happen to be for Mac OS 10.4.6, and in the intermediate time, you
probably can use PatchBurn or Toast.

But if you have a Mac which only admits one drive, then some functionality
will be lost: the DVD player may not start up, because it does not find a licensed internal drive. Etc.
