Mossberg even said it has to be the new installation version of Windows
    XP, not an upgrade version.

I found I had an OEM XP CD which I got with an old Acer PC, I popped
that into the mac to see what happened... As I expected, it didn't work.
On closer inspection it appears that this CD was indeed one of those
"restore" variety which seems to install XP from a hard drive image on
the CD. The only other CD I have is an upgrade version so unless it's
possible to somehow eject the CD part way through install without
busting up the imac's case, looks like there is no alternative but to
    buy a new XP CD.

eBay seems to be full of "full install" CDs but they all tend to be
OEMs. I don't know whether to risk getting one of these OEMs to test and
hope it's not a restore CD like mine... or to just pay the extra $100
    and get a retail CD.

If anyone has one of these OEM XP CDs that come up on eBay all the time, perhaps they would like to test it out on their imac and report their
    success or failure back here?

A friend of mine had a Compaq with an OEM version of Windows. Her
mother board went out, and she bought a replacement mother board, and
the OEM Windows wouldn't install. So I really doubt that an OEM version
of Windows will install on an Intel Macintosh.

BTW, she's had a Powerbook for the past year and a half, and is not
interested in running Windows on anything any more.

Just incase anyone is interested/cares, I went ahead and bought an OEM
full version XP Home CD off eBay and it installed without any problems
with the Boot Camp thingy. So if anyone wants to try out XP it won't
    cost quite as much.
