What version of Mac OS? What model of iBook? Does it have a built-in microphone or audio input port?

You think? Better find out for sure. Check the Sound - Input panel in
System Preferences. It will list any sound input devices that are built
    in or connected.

If you do have a microphone or audio input port, try Amadeus II. It's shareware, so you should be able to find it on VersionTracker.com. (You
could also do a search on that site for "audio record" to see what other recording apps are available for Mac OS X.)

If you *don't* have any type of sound input port, you'll have to buy a
USB sound input device. I suggest the Griffin iMic. You'll also have
to buy a microphone to plug into it. For software, use Griffin's "Final Vinyl", which works only with the iMic, and can be downloaded free from
    their web site. <http://www.griffintechnology.com/>

iMovie (which you should have already installed -- it's free)
can record. Click in the audio button.
