I have reinstalled Jaguar, but after downloading updates Disk Copy
starts but then quits before the disk image appears on the desk.
My impression is that this is nearly always due to a botched install,
where you've got old versions of Disk Copy or its related stuff still floating around on the hard drive. m.
I once had a similar problem that was caused by a software conflict. Try logging out, and then logging back in while holding down the shift key
(start holding it down just before hitting Enter after the password).
This will keep most third-party stuff that normally loads at login from loading. See if Disk Copy still has the same problem. If not, you've got
a conflict of some type.
If you need to carry this test to the next level, restart and hold the
shift key down while the Mac boots and until you get to the login
prompt. Then log in as described above. This will suppress most
third-party software that loads both at boot and at login.
FWIW, the file that was causing my Disk Copy problem was
</Users/[user name]/Library/Application Enhancers/camel.ape>. After I
removed it, the problem disappeared and never came back. This file had
been installed by a beta version of a third-party utility I had used.
