• No iPhone 6 with Big Sur?

Mac Mini M1, Big Sur. My Mac doesn't want to communicate with my iPhone
6 (I know, I know.) Image Capture sees the phone and tells me to 'Please unlock "iPhone"' but my iPhone doesn't offer me anything to unlock.
Googling doesn't bring up anything about iPhone 6 being incompatible
with Big Sur Image Capture. Maybe I'm the last one on earth still using
    an iPhone 6?

What version of iOS is on the iPhone? Are you connecting via wi-fi or
cable? What are you connecting for - just photos, or backing up, or
    syncing other items?

An iPhone with an appropriate version of iOS should show up in any
Finder window's sidebar to let you do things like backing up.

If using a cable, then changing to a wi-fi connection may be an option. https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mac-help/mchlada1d602/mac

If not, you could try disconnecting the iPhone from the Mac and then
using Terminal to execute this command:
    sudo killall -STOP -c usbd
then plugging the iPhone back in.

It's possible that with the disolution of iTunes, old versions of iOS
simply won't work with Big Sur. You might have to look at a third-party
    app like iMazing instead.

iOS 12.4.7. The latest version of iOS that runs on iPhone 6. Connected
with USB. I just want to move photos from the iPhone to the Mac.

I rebooted the phone and now Photos and Image capture can see it, but no photos are found. Stragely, if I text or email a photo from my phone to someone (anyone), Image Capture and Photos can all of a sudden see that
and import it. It's a very odd problem--like the photo has to be
"tagged" for the Mac to see it.

After two more reboots of my phone and my Mac and answering Trust a few
more times, Photos and Image Capture now see all my phone's photos.

I hope Big Sur's bugs get ironed out soon. A couple more I have noticed: -Firewire 800 drives don't play nice (see my other thread)
-USB drives spin up and down all the time at irregular intervals,
despite "put hard disks to sleep" being unchecked
-Screen lock problem. Tt randomly turns on and can't be unlocked the
normal way. Many reports about this
-Bluetooth pairing problems, my keyboard will randomly disconnect and
pair with the iMac in the other room
-I have had at least 7 random reboots (kernel panics) since I got this
    Mac
    just under 4 weeks ago

not trusted would explain why you couldn't see the photos.

swap the drive into usb 3 enclosures for a *significant* speed
    improvement.

-USB drives spin up and down all the time at irregular intervals,
despite "put hard disks to sleep" being unchecked

something is accessing a file on them.

leave them spinning and it won't do that.

The "unlock" refers to someone typing the passcode or touchID to make
the home acreen accessible. (akaL requires you authenticate on the phone
so that the phone allows your computer to access it).

The Image Capture" and other photo apps use standard camera USB
interface. (forrget the name of protocol). But this will only work once
iPhone is unlocked. (iPhone makes the restriction).

The synching proces, as well as backup may no longer be in iTunes, but
the backend is the same with some modules dealing with different
    versions of IOS.

Those could be either Big Sur issues, or M1 issues, or a combination of
both. At least some of them seem to be affecting other people, so it
looks like a case of waiting for another update from Apple.

Some people have fixed drive issues by not using Sleep (neither
automatically nor manually) and just letting the display turn off when
    idle instead.

Yes I know, it wasn't working before. Screen was unlocked but Mac still
was asking me to unlock it. Rebooted phone and it asked me to "Trust
this computer", and the Mac still wouldn't access the photos. After
another two reboots and "trusts" it finally worked. So it does sound
    like some bug.

Already moved on from that. Take it as you want! Gee, imagine John Gohde trying to pin his nonsense on others, no one has ever seen that before <sarcasm>. John Gohde's essentially misleading Just Wondering to keep feeding him by trying to 'develop websites', specifically, his clueless efforts
and Just Wondering's efforts to help him become a better engineer. He needs attention, and as long as you're willing to continue do his bidding, he'll remain. John Gohde writes all kinds of crap, don't use that idiot as a reference.
Over and over, the surface request is he wants to "talk tech", but John
Gohde spends most of his time whining about "trolling".

LOL! Give me a break, dog... even you have filtered that lamer. Given what
he is (and does) nobody would blame anyone for working to be rid of his preposterous brand of craziness. Unlike the intelligent people in political groups, FromTheRafters relies on the MSM to build his opinions on the news. Consequently, he only thinks of and accepts the media accounts which also
are the ones which characterize climate change in approving and moral light. Having to tolerate the use of AZ Cypher is too much for FromTheRafters
    to deal with.

Yep, the iPhone 6 does run iOS 12.4.8, 12.4.9, 12.5, and the latest
update 12.5.1 which was released just a few days ago (January 11, 2021).
