Unless you are trolling (seems so) OS X has own FreeBSD LAYER, OS X is
in fact Mach Kernel and both have nothing to do with Ubuntu Linux or
    any Linux.

    Yes, it is.

Ubuntu is built on Linux (free) not Unix (not free).

Ubuntu has its place. OSX has its place.

Ubuntu is good. OSX is better (don't ask me to justify this, it really
    isn't necessary).

I like Ubuntu. I love OSX.

Ubuntu has lots of good open source software. OSX has lots of good open

Do you mean it looks just *like* Mac OS X"? Well I don't give
a flying fsck what Ubuntu looks like. A photo of Angelina Jolie
looks like Angelina Jolie but I know which I would prefer to
    find in my bed.

All GUI apps that run under Ubuntu are X11 clients and I have
never run an X11 server on my iBook. None of the GUI apps I run
on my iBook will run under Ubuntu. I would say that these are
    fairly significant differences.

Of course computers are just tools, and the tasks I use my iBook
for could also be achieved using a commodity x86 box running
Ubuntu or Windows. Ubuntu is a fine OS which has the twin benefits
of being Open Source and free (as in beer). However, Mac OS X has
other advantages which make it the preferred OS for many.

I'm not sure what question you're asking, but.....

Ubuntu is a Linux distribution, like many others. It is based on free
(as in freedom, not as in beer) software.

Mac OS X is not a Linux/UNIX distribution. It has a UNIX-derived kernel
at its core, and some parts of it are free. The overall package,
however, is quite commercial and not free.

A quick description of what Mac OS X is:

    - A Microkernel (based on the IBM Microkernel, based on Mach 3.0, IIRC)

    - A BSD UNIX-derived open source kernel (called Darwin) running over the
    microkernel.

    - Two non-free, non-open API layers that run over the microkernel and
    UNIX layer:
    - Carbon - a set of C-based APIs based on the classic Mac OS APIs
    - Cocoa - a set of Objective-C-based APIs based on the NextStep
    APIs.

    - Three non-free, non-open GUI layers:
    - Quartz - for 2D graphics
    - Open GL - for 3D graphics
    - QuickTime - for multimedia

    - A PDF-based metafile system

    - Many bundled applications, some free, some not-free, including:
    - The Apache web server
    - SAMBA (for Windows-compatible file sharing)
    - AppleShare-compatible file sharing
    - The Safari web browser
    - All kinds of userful utilities
    - An X11 server
    - Developer tools (a proprietary environment wrapped around the free
gcc compiler and gdb debugger, plus libraries, headers,
    documentation and sample code.)
