• Timing an iBook G4 purchase

Given that chatter on the street suggests that time is just
about up for the PPC iBook, I'm wondering what the options
are for getting the best deal if one doesn't want to risk the
    used route.

The gang in Cupertino seem to exert an iron grip on prices
for new gear - does this also hold for discontinued stuff?
If I want a new iBook G4, should I just accept the fact that
I'm gonna pay full price for it, or are there deals to be
    had once the axe falls?

    Thanks,

    -Steve

Check the Apple Web site for refurbished computers with warranty.

Apple is very good at clearing out the old product in preparation for
the new stuff, so no you won't find a killer deal at the Apple Store.

Their refurb pricing isn't horrible, at least here in Canuckistan.

Do you read MacInTouch? (If you don't, you should -- highly recommended)

Go there and keep an eye on the Mac prices from Amazon. When a new
machine is introduced, they (almost) always have a good discount on the
model that has been superceded. Since the Intel replacement for the
iBook is reportedly in production now and 'expected' next month, there
should be some bargains available soon.

    cheers,

    Henry

Thanks for the tips! I'll check 'em out.
