  • Can't find older mac OS versions in Apple's App Store.

    From ant@ant@zimage.comANT (Ant) to comp.sys.mac.system,comp.sys.mac.software,comp.sys.mac.systems on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 16:38:42
    From Newsgroup: comp.sys.mac.system

    Hello.

    I cannot seem to find the older Mac OS versions' installer files to
    redownload (Mojave v10.14.6 and earlier). I only can find Catalina
    v10.15.7). Did Apple remove them? :(

    Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon. :)

    This App Store link may be personal to my Apple-ID but it's worth a try:

    <https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/macos-mojave/id1398502828?ls=1&mt=12>

    If it doesn't work for you, try pruning the link.

    It works in Polish App Store, no matter if I put "gb" or "us" in the link. It looks like you need to find a trusted person outside US to download it for
    you, or wait and hope it's just a glitch.

    This link worked for me just now, though I did not actually download it
    as I already have an installer DMG of Mojave archived.

    You can download full installers using the softwareupdate utility on the command line, at least in theory. I have not gotten it to work but I am
    on the Big Sur Beta.

    I've used this method in the past to refresh my archived installers
    (which are signed with certificates that eventually expire and are
    renewed by Apple periodically).

    I just downloaded all of the latest installers for everything back to
    10.11.6 with this method, and it works well. Recommended.

    Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon. :)

    This App Store link may be personal to my Apple-ID but it's worth a try:

    <https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/macos-mojave/id1398502828?ls=1&mt=12>

    This link worked for me just now, though I did not actually download it
    as I already have an installer DMG of Mojave archived.

    You can download full installers using the softwareupdate utility on the command line, at least in theory. I have not gotten it to work but I am
    on the Big Sur Beta.

    softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 10.15.7 softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 10.14.6 softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 10.13.6 softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 10.12.6

    Didn't work for me on 10.13.6:

    $ softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 10.14.6

    softwareupdate: unrecognized option `--fetch-full-installer'
    softwareupdate: unrecognized option `--full-installer-version'
    usage: softwareupdate <cmd> [<args> ...]

    The issue happens *after* clicking the Get button.

    I was able to get up to the "Are you sure you want to download this old version? ( cancel ) [ DOWNLOAD ]" (or words along those lines, I didn’t
    note the exact wording).

    I did not download it.

    "Item Not Available -- The item you've requested is not currently available

    It works in Polish App Store, no matter if I put "gb" or "us" in the link. >>> It
    looks like you need to find a trusted person outside US to download it for >>> you, or wait and hope it's just a glitch.

    Works just fine in the US, even with the /gb/ in the link.

    Not for me. https://apps.apple.com/app/macos-mojave/id1398502828?ls=1&mt=12 says "Item not available"

    First, I said "even WITH the /gb/" and second, the link you posted also
    works just fine. It's the middle of the night an no one is awake, so I
    even went ahead and downloaded it. No issue.

    I was pointed at this script:

    <https://github.com/munki/macadmin-scripts/blob/main/installinstallmacos.py>

    That's a good script, although I do not like that it creates the
    application in the /Applications folder instead of the folder it is run
    from.

    Of course it failed. Where did you get the idea this would work on some
    Linux system?

    I guess it requires a mac OS to run it. :(

    Of course it does.

    I was pointed at this script:

    That's a good script, although I do not like that it creates the
    application in the /Applications folder instead of the folder it is run
    from.

    I found it on my desktop, where I ran the script from. But I had named the >> script downloader.py rather than whatever its actual name is supposed to be, >> as I'd copy/pasted the script into BBEdit. Perhaps that makes a difference.

    Nah. It downloads to the current working directory - not the
    Applications folder.

    It downloads the parts to the current folder and assembles the Install
    app in /Applications.

    so I duly ran it and it appears to download your choice of macOS. I asked for
    Catalina.latest and now I have an installer which claims it will do that. >> Haven't tried it yet.

    Nice find! No Sierra and older mac OSes that I saw in the 2012 13.3"
    MBP's updated mac OS Mojave v10.14.6. I tried to run this script in my old, updated Debian Jessie v8 PC, but it failed:

    I guess it requires a mac OS to run it. :(

    Of course it does.

    I was hoping it didn't need a mac OS to use this script.
