This guy is trying to get funds together to buy an iMac. A worthy cause
I'm sure you'll agree. If you've got a few bucks sitting in PayPal,
then throw em his way. I don't normally help people with such blatent
begging attempts, but for some reason I want to see this guy succeed.

I don't want this to turn into a discussion about whether he should be
doing this, and whether or not he deserves a free Mac. Direct those
sort of comments to his blog, as they will have much more weight there.
I'm just helping him get the word out.

As I said in my original post. I don't want this to be a discusison
about whether you care, or if he should be doing this. When I first
heard about this I thought, 'Why should I care?', but after reading
what he had to say, I thought why not? I've got nothing to lose, and if
my small donation can help this guy out then great.

And before I get some sort of backlash saying why didn't you donate the
money to charity...I regularly donate around 5% of my earnings to
various charities accross the world, and this is just a couple of bucks
to help a guy out. So why not?

Why should I care? I want a new Mac, too, but can't buy one right now, either. So, again, why should I care?

Hey guys, Stefan here from http://makemeswitch.blogspot.com

Just wanted to say that the people who have donated apparently cared
    enough to give me a dollar or two. I'm not forcing anyone to do it;
they just like the angle I'm coming from.

I mean my life is pretty busy, and saving money is difficult, you all
saw the current rig I use, a 5 year old laptop.

So please, stop arguing. If you donated, thanks! If you didn't then
thanks for checking out my site, if you can pass it along to someone
you think would be interested then it's much appreciated.

Wow, what's more despicable? The lazy slacker who appears to be of
otherwise sound mind and body behaving like a common beggar, or those
who donate to his selfish cause rather than any one of thousands of far worthier and life saving issues?

You know, like children who go to bed hungry every night, or the
elderly who have to choose between their medications and eating, or
children suffering from leukemia, or battered women, ad nauseam.

As far as I'm concerned, donations should stop immediately, and Stefan,
if he had any personal self-respect and dignity at all, would take his ill-gotten gains and donate them to a truly worthwhile cause.

At least the Uni student selling pixels to fund his education provided
some kind of ROI even if his goals were completely self-serving.

What are you teaching kids when they not just go begging, but do so
    without any good reason?

Get a job, sell on eBay, wash cars, mow lawns, paint houses, do
anything other than this. This isn't initiative, it's being a
    contemptible bum.

Taking or giving money in this situation is morally and ethically
bankrupt and those who do so, even if they also donate to the truly
needy, should feel some serious shame

I wish I had never seen this thread or read this child's blog.

I'm not quite that emphatic on it, but I tend in that direction. Note
that the "child" is 19 years old - legally an adult. And I find it a bit anomalous to be begging for a 20" Intel iMac as a charity case. A 17"
one wouldn't do? Or a mini? Hey, I'd like a 20" Intel iMac also. My
carpoolmate is debating buying his first Mac, but he's looking at a mini
as a way to test the waters without a big investment. Indeed, I have
quite a few friends who would certainly appreciate having a Mac for
free. I'd put them all ahead of some random leech on the net ... except
that most of them would refuse it if I offered to give one to them. (I
did give one to my wonderful mother-in-law, but that's a bit of a
special case, and the Mac doesn't come close to paying off my "debt"
there. Besides, it was worth it just in the time it saved me compared to keeping her old Windows box running.)

P.S. Along with the 20" Intel iMac, could someone send me a nice sports
    car?

Evidently in this brave new world all one needs to do is blog and beg
for any stuff you might desire. Guess I'll now have to blog about not
using the Internet as a donation tool for personal gain.
