hi , i need help , i am up gradeing my stock iMac 350 from a 6GB HD
to a 20GB hard drive and from a 64 MB RAM to a 256 MB ram , i am
also upgradeing from OS 9.0.4 to OS X 10.2 , how do i do this , i
am told that if you dont do it right ehn the internal CRT will not
work ,so how do i do this with out screwing up ? and can i boot up
the computer through a USB CD drive ? the slot laoding one inside
the iMac is broken.
(1) You are right about the CRT, and the fix is probably this, which you
must apply *before* attempting to upgrade. You will probably need to
upgrade to 9.1 before you can apply the fix. Make sure this is the one
that applies to your model.

(2) I am pretty sure that you can NOT boot up from a USB-based CD.
However, all is not lost. Borrow another computer, connect it to yours
with firewire, boot up yours in firewire target mode, and you can
install Mac OS X from that other computer.
(3) Don't install 10.2. It's atrocious. You're just opening yourself up
to a world of problems. There is a reason why there are system updates.
Install Panther or Tiger.
