    I have a strange directory in my home directory

    The directory is /Users/sally/vw

    It contains two files, each is named with a long string of numbers and
    letters

    Each file contains:
    S:9::9::::9:9::999::::::999::9999999:9999

    What is this "vw" directory?

    (Sorry, I had to do it. :)

    open up terminal and type the command 'file' (no quotes) then the name of
    one of those 2 files. see if it tells you what kind of files they are.

    My guess is you have, or did have, a copy of VisualRoute and have run it
    at least once. I tried it out some months ago and it left the same "vw" directory in my home directory.

    BTW, VisualRoute is essentially a traceroute program, written in Java
    from what I can tell. I tried it and although it offers some nice
    features that other similar apps are missing, it was too flaky for my
    tastes.

    Result: ASCII text.

    Thanks. It was worth a try, but didn't learn anything.

    I own a Volkswagen but I must be doing something wrong because I don't
    have a ~/vw directory. time to see if iSync supports a 2003 Passat :)
