• USB Scanner recommendations?

I want to buy an inexpensive new USB scanner. Can someone recommend
some that are absolutely reliable under MacOS X? Easy of use and
reliability are more important than graphic quality.

I just bought a Canon LIDE 30 and am very happy with it. Easy to use, OSX-compatible (including support for the buttons on the front of the
scanner), and only has a single USB cable for both the data and for
powering the scanner. It's not the speediest in the world, but it does
exactly what I want (occasional photo and document scanning). Only
cost me $80. Here's CompUSA's product page for it:

Note that the OmniPage SE software (for optical character recognition)
included is an OS9 program, not native OSX, and doesn't seem to work
terribly well under Classic. I don't use it, so it's not an issue for
    me, but just FYI.
