I have a Graphite G4 (1999 model) with a dead ethernet port. A
thunderstorm zapped it. I checked a few online stores and it looks
like I could buy a 10/100 PCI ethernet board for between $10 and
$40. This would be cheaper than repairing the motherboard ethernet.
Does anyone have any experience with using a PCI ethernet board on a
Mac? I would like one that works with both OS 9 and OS X. Do I
just plug it in, or will I need to install software drivers? Are
there any particular brands that I should avoid?
I have a D-Link DFE530TX+ that I bought for $5 (after rebates) at
OfficeMax installed in my Starmax 3000. Works fine in Mac OS 8.6 and 9.1
and there are drivers on their web site for OS X.
