• OS 9

    Hi,

Since I've moved all of my programs to OS X.4 and I don't think I even
booted to OS9 since I've had my Powerbook for over a year.

My question is this; Can I safely throw OS 9 into the trash. Or, is
there another way of doing so? Is there any consequences in throwing OS
    9 away other that I can't use OS 9.

    Thanks for your consideration.

I'm in the same boat. When I installed a new hard drive on my iMac and installed everything fresh, I didn't bother with OS9 at all.

It won't let you -- it'll complain that the folder is in use. Here's
an article that'll show you how to remove it cleanly, along with the
    Classic preference pane:

Yes. Look for something called "System Folder". Make sure that is really
the OS 9 folder; trash it and delete it.

    Or, is
there another way of doing so?

    No.

Is there any consequences in throwing OS
    9 away other that I can't use OS 9

No, other than the loss of the files in that folder (so look carefully).

However, I also think what you're doing is silly. OS 9 takes up so
little hard drive space compared to other stuff you've got; why not just
leave it there, just in case?

    m.

That's what I did, until I bought an iMac Core Duo; then I trashed OS 9
    and all "classic" software.

    Only if Classic is running.

The solution is much simpler, and doesn't require Terminal: Just stop Classic! Go to System Preferences -> Classic, uncheck the "Start Classic
when you login" and "Show Classic status in menu bar" options, and click
the "Stop" button. When the status changes to "Classic is not running",
you can drag the System Folder to the trash.

    Just a general comment:

Man...a world without OS 9...I know it's coming (maybe I should say it's already here), but a very difficult pill to swallow.

I'll catch up with the rest of you eventually *S*

    Happy computing,
    Eric
