My system never booted os x, see applefaulty.be and so on, but would
external booting with frierwire and helper drive work with xpf 4.0 ????

Would it solve memory problems, as I do not know if the problme still is
there or on the IDE chip ....

My apple delaer gave me 5 chips 128Mb, none of them worked for os x...
I have ONE 64mb chip that does do linux ....

I had no problem installing Tiger on my B&W. Are you sure you have the latest firmware update?

The OP bought a used, defective b&w a year or two ago and has been
bitching about it ever since. He introduced himself to the c.s.m.
newsgroups by railing against Apple because this one Mac doesn't work
    right.

Looking at your Web site, it seems as though you have spent far more
time complaining about the problem and trying to smear Apple than trying
to fix it. Perhaps the fault lies not with Apple but with the user?

OS X requires more RAM than GNU/Linux. Get over it. 256 MB is the bare
bones minimum for all version of OS X according to most people, and I
think I have read that 10.4 requires 512 MB. Since your computer has 4
memory slots I am not sure why your dealer sold you 5 sticks of 128 MB.
Make sure you have at least 2 of them and preferably 4 of them, although
you'd be better off with 2 256 MB sticks to start with. And check to
see if Open Firmware needs to be updated first; it shouldn't but that
may depend on which B&W you have.

My B&W G3/300 mHz runs 10.3.9 just fine. I installed it from the
standard OS X installation CD, rebooted, and it ran just fine. I
installed it on my even older iMac G3/233 mHz and it also runs 10.3.9
fine and dandy. My iBook G4/1.33 gHz runs 10.4.6 very happily.
