• Bookmarks on an iPod

    Hi there,

just got an iPod Photo. I tend to listen to very long mp3 recordings of various radio shows. Each file can be 4 hours long. I *need* to be able
to set bookmarks, but the only reference I found on Apple's site related
    to bookmarking audiobooks.

Is there a way to bookmarks regular mp3 files? Or maybe a way that the
iPod can consider these mp3s as audiobooks? From what I understand, audiobooks have the .aa extension.

    Thanks.

Just an idea, but you might be able to find a utility to convert mp3 to bookmarkable AAC files. Have a dig through Versiontracker and/or MacUpdate
and see what you can find. The only programme I know off the top of my
head that does this is iPodderX but it only does it for downloaded podcast files (I think). A quick (very quick) check of iTunes itself tells me that
it can convert to AAC, but whether it converts to bookmarkable AAC is
    unknown to me.

You can bookmark MP3 files now in iTunes. Select the "song" in iTunes
that you want to make bookmarkable. In the File menu select "Get Info",
Click on the "Options" tab and check the "Remember Playback Position"
    box.

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep the iTunes option in mind, but I wanna
go with a more dynamic options where I don't have to rely on a computer.

I just started playing around with RockBox (http://www.rockbox.org/). It
is a replacement for Apple's User Interface and the installation is pretty straight forward and well documented. It has bookmark capability, and
options too many to even think about. It even supposedly plays ogg and
flac files, but not encrypted AAC. But you can reboot into Apple's own UI with a key combo. Will see how it works out.
