    Hi!

Is there a good standalone newsgroup reader? Currently I am using the
    one from Netscape.

Yes, there are a lots of good standalone newsreaders. You can find a
list of many of them here:

    http://www.newsreaders.com/mac/clients.html

Some of the more popular ones available today include MT-NewsWatcher, Hogwasher, and Unison. You'll find links to all of them on the above
    list.

    Follow-ups set to comp.sys.mac.apps.

    Hi Hartwig,

There aren't many free/quality Mac newsreaders, but I might suggest MT Newswatcher (http://www.smfr.org/mtnw/) or Thoth if you can get a hold of a copy. The creator of Thoth discontinued development of the reader, but you can probably request a copy in one of the mac application newsgroups.

Alternately you might consider one of the following readers...

    Thunderbird - http://www.mozilla.org/download.html
    Hogwasher - http://www.asar.com/
    Unison - http://www.panic.com/unison/

Hope the info helps, and good luck!

    Michael

There are tons of them. You might want to check out <http://www.newsreaders.com/mac/index.html>

If you simply want a current (security wise) version of Netscape, give SeaMonkey a try. It should pick up your existing NS profile. (The
paranoid will make a backup of the profile first, of course!)

It is likely more efficient to use a program dedicated to the task
than to use a browser for newsreading.

    Just a thought.
    Happy computing,
