is there a way to label files by coloring the files name itself rather

The dot is rather pathetic. :-(
Almost certainly because of the change to allowing multiple labels on a
file, so Finder won't know which colour you want to use to fully colour
the icon.
XtraFinder can resurrect the old method of labelling files, but it
costs US$4.99. It does have an "unlimited trial" period, but I don't
know what they entails - it may have a limited set of features and/or
keep nagging you to buy it. It also has a slight of an issue in newer
versions of macOS where you have to (the workaround is on the website)
to temporarily disable the SIP system while installing it, which you
may not want to do. The option for the old labelling style is called
"Legacy label color painting" in the "Appearance" section. <

There may be other options, but the only others I know of are full replacements for Finder and more expensive.
