• Imac tries to connect on it's own...OSX 10.2.4

My Imac 400DV is running OSX 10.2.4. Recently it has started a strange habit of trying to connect to the net without any action on my part. The internet connect window pops up and states that the connection failed because no number is entered. (I don't use Internet connect as I connect to the net via proprietary Compuserve 2000 software)

I have checked logon options, and checked all of the software for any auto update features to no avail. Anyone have any ideas? The connect log mentions "Dial On Demand" it it's log of the unsuccessful logon attempts, but I can't really determine what program or script is doing the connection attempt. I've also checked the Software Update program and it is disabled.

Any ideas on a cause / cure? About to drive me nuts!

The packets I've seen from my iBook have been NTP (network time
protocol) requests. Your machine may be updating its clock.

I would like to turn this off as well; for now I have my network server ignoring NTP requests.

When I had this problem, it turned out that my computer was set to get
its time reading from the network (in fact, apple.com). YMMV, but it
wont hurt to check System Preferences -> Date and Time -> Network.

If you connect via PPP, you might also investigate System Preferences
Network -> PPP -> (PPP Options...) -> Session Options: Uncheck...
    Connect automatically when needed
