    The word file crashes Maclink and the Excel file produces no output. I
    don't know whether the problem is MacLink's or the files themselves.

    I believe that I still have a copy of Word 5.1 that I recall still
    runs in Classic under OS X.

    I believe that it should do the trick, as it should still have MS's
    original backwards compatibility elements built in (since
    eliminated)...I keep the old stuff around because I've been tagged by
    MS's "lets get rid of support of old formats" problem before,
    typically with Powerpoint v2 files.

    I thought the same of Word 6, but it was unable to open the sample
    document sent to me. Good luck though!
