I am thinking about getting a 12" PowerBook with an AirPort Extreme
card.
I already have a wireless hub for use with a PC laptop. Will that work
for the PowerBook, too, or do I need to invest in an AirPort base
station?
Your new PowerBook should work with any wireless device that adheres to
the 802.11b or 802.11g standards. If you are using WEP on your wireless network, you will have to enter a hexadecimal WEP key the first time
your PowerBook joins the network. After that, your PowerBook can join
the network automatically.
Also, does anyone know if the modem that comes standard in the
PowerBook will work in Australia and New Zealand? I'm planning on a
trip to those countries and read that some US modems won't work there.
The PowerBook USB modem can operate in Australia or New Zealand. To
change it, you use the Time Zone tab of the Date & Time preference pane
in OS X. To check the modem's setting, type "AT+GCI?" in a terminal
program, such as ZTerm.
