Beginning a few days ago, in the mornings when I would go to fire up my
home iMac the trackpad would not respond. Try to power it up. Nothing.
I cleaned the contact (+ve) with alcohol and then a stick with sandpaper
and that seemed to do the trick... until the next day. Repeat.
Sanded all the battery terminal ends and the screwplug too. Seemed
better - until the next morning.
Finally it occurred to me that the spring at the positive end was no
longer stiff enough to ensure a good contact. I put a thin washer at
the negative end to increase the load on the spring - now all is well.
Not sure how old this trackpad is. They came out in 2010 and I bought
it soon after that (for a value of soon of less than 1 year).
Anyway, it is a beautifully designed trackpad and I hope to have it for another 10 years.
