• Mac Newbie Question

Hi. I'm a Mac Newbie. In fact I don't own a Mac (they are nice, but
too expensive), but my question is in which directory is the cd-rom
    mounted.

The hard drives and cd drives mount on the desktop. Not in a folder.

They are directories in their own right, just as is the internal hard
    drive.

If you mean which lettered drive they are, the Mac doesn't use lettered drives.

Yes, they show up there, too.

Mounted volumes reside in /Volumes; you can check there in Terminal.app
    to see.

For most people, most of the time, the desktop is the place to check.

    They mount in /Volumes.

And unless there's a name clash, the name of the mount point is the name
    of the disk volume.

I'm curious why the OP asks.

I have no idea what it means, but it's such a cool "word" (by which I mean pronouncable sequence of letters) regardless.

System Profiler lists the mount point and BSD name of each mounted
    volume.

Thanks, everyone. All are god answers. The one I needed was /Volumes
(I was used to things mounting under /mnt).

And if any of you are curious why I asked. I burned a cd for my friend
who has a Mac. The folder which opened on the desktop for him showed
only some of the directories that I burned. I wanted to navigate to
the mount directory to see if there are some files there that are not
    on the cd.
