    Hi all,

it is known that you can change the background color of a folder via the apple+J option.
This feature worked right for months on my old PowerBook.

Recently I upgraded to a MacBookPro, and moved the files from the old
notebook by hand with the firewire target mode... to avoid the transfer
of unwanted ppc programs or frameworks...

Now the background color feature work in a strange mode: the color I
choose for a folder is right the first time... with the finder window
opened... but if I close it and reopened the folder the color is changed
and it's different from what I choosed.

The automatic crazy color change is random... but it's like is a
function of the color I choose, I mean if I change again the background
color of a folder... reopening it I got again a color different from
what I choosed... but different from the color set before.

It could be also like, finder is not able to record in the right way the
    color information.

So I ask... where are saved the color information about finder folders?

I've done some tests and I don't think that .DS_Store are used for this purpose.

I've also fixed permissions but with no lack.

    Many thanks,
    for any clues.

Does the colour change when you open a new window, or when you open the
    same window?

When you choose a colour for the window, you have the option to have
the colour in that window only, or have it in every window.

    Hi,

first of all... many thanks for your replay...
since this problem looks really strange and up to now
I found nobody able to solve...

    anyway...

Does the colour change when you open a new window, or when you open the
    same window?

the color change (ie. I got a different color from what I set) when I
open the same window... It's like the finder is not able to save the
color I choosed... or read the information about the color from the
    wrong place.

Initially I thought that the problem was connect with the files I copied
from the powerbook that carried corrupted permission... but... Now I
think that is due to OSX or my installation since...

I created a new test account... created a new folder "prova" under
"Documents" changed the background color of this folder ex. to Blue.
    look at:
    <http://img76.imageshack.us/my.php?image=immagine37vz.png>

then I close the window-folder. I reopened it clicking on the "prova"
folder inside Documents... and the folder I got has a different color
    (ie. violet).
    look at:
    <http://img176.imageshack.us/my.php?image=immagine45bq.png>

the funny thing is that... I close again the folder window "prova"... reopened... I got the blue... closing... reopening... I got the
    violet... and so on...

One time the color is read right... the other time is read wrong...

When you choose a colour for the window, you have the option to have
the colour in that window only, or have it in every window.

I choose to change only the color of that particular window.

Anyway I used the background color features on my PowerBook for a year
or so... and it worked right.

    hoping in a clue,
    Bye

I have been able to reproduce this problem. I don't know how to solve
    it, though.

    Hi,

and many thanks for you collaboration ;-D

I have been able to reproduce this problem. I don't know how to solve
    it, though.

did you use a PPC or an Intel?

Since two people can create the same problem I think about a bug.
Everything worked right when I had a PPC Powerbook... while the problem happened with the Intel MBP.

your "PPC" in the headers makes me wondering...

do you know other places where to ask help?

    Bye.
