• iTunes erroneously showing empty Library

When I quit iTunes, and relaunched, it shows an empty library, and all playlists are gone, despite no other changes has been made. So the iTunes database contents info list has somehow become gotten corrupted, though
all tunes are still there. Is there a way to get it back, so that it
displays a correct library, and hopefully, getting the playlists back as
    well?

One can import a copy of the file "iTunes Music Library.xml" in the ~/Music/iTunes folder (it must be copied, so that iTunes is not using it.
So one way, to get most of the stuff back it seems, is as follows:
    1. Make a backup copy of the file ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music Library.xml
    2. From iTunes, choose the menu item File/Import... and import the backup
copy of the file iTunes Music Library.xml.

Alternatively, if one has a backup copy of the folder ~/Music/iTunes, one
can use that one, but one will then loose the stuff added since the last backup. But this method is probably safer.

This method lasts only for the iTunes session, that is, when iTunes is
quitted and relaunched, I end up with an empty Library and the playlists are gone again. Restoring the library by the method above, exporting
a Library file from within iTunes, and then importing it, does not help.
So some file that iTunes is using for keeping track of its data between sessions has become corrupted so that iTunes cannot use it.

So I am still open for suggestions on how to fix the problem (other than
using the backup copy of the folder ~/Music/iTunes).
