Hi all.
I'm setting up a pair of XServe G5 at work for backup, common printer
handling, LDAP lookup &c.
I have encountered two major obstacles with the Mac clients
(which to my annoyance are no obstacles for Wintel clients):
1) Local admin.
I can't figure out how to let client's computers have administrative
right when they are not even logged in locally.
This can easyly be done on the Windows (XP/2000) clients,
Mac clients also have no access to their own local files.
This was not so easy for the Windows clients either but after some
tinkering -and moving their files to the new accont folder in Documents
and Settings - it could be done.
Please note that syncing everything is not a solution, since they have a
disk quota of 8 GB on the server and their own disks may be much bigger.
2) Automount.
For clients not logged in to the domain - is there a way to automount
their home folder on the server at login.
It's (too) easy in Mac OS 9 and fairly simple in Windows, too
(Map network drive - reconnect at logon - remenber password).
But Panther/Tiger ??? Did I miss something in OS X 101 ?

I recommend Macs to my friends, and Windows machines
to those whom I don't mind billing by the hour
