It's a gaping hole, and I'd love to say I was surprised that their IT department didn't find it first, but I'm not. Security is the first thing to go when you're trying to save a buck or two in a budget.

When I was reading that article this morning, I couldn't help but feel like this was just a natural progression of politicians/government attacking the press. I can't be so sure that a similar reaction would have been done if a random security researcher had contacted them to let them know.

In this case the guy was sent to jail because he exploited the gap some months later after reporting it, in order to check if they had fixed it, after he had been explicitly told not to do it. Since he had been explicitly told not to do it they sold it as an unauthorized access to the judge.

I've worked in companies like that. You report a problem that
management doesn't want to deal with and they just ignore it.
One guy got fired because he did his job of checking for security
issues. He ran an automated process that checked things and management freaked out because it found some holes.
My experience is ALL management is like that.
They go on and on and on about how they want to hear your ideas and your reports and that your opinion matters to them. You point at some issue that needs specific action, and you become their enemy, because for all their beautifull words, the only thing they want to hear from you is that everything is working fine.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson wants to prosecute a journalist who warned the state that a government website left school teachers and administrators' Social Security numbers exposed.

Why admit you're wrong ot take responsibility for your actions when you can criminalize your critics? That's perfect politician logic right there.

I worked for a YES MAN once. When someone else balked him on something and
I agreed, he asked why I didn't already speak up. LOL
Well, if it is more than one employee doing the bitching they may listen to the complaints. "May" being the magical word.
The problem is management is so passive-agressive dealing with legit complaints that anybody who speaks ends up speaking alone.
I have seen pretty scary stuff, such as a Doctor complaining that an ecograph was not working, when it was actually non working, and the rest of the people there saying the ecograph was fine.

I work for a company with a "strong company culture", which values "diversity" and so forth. It is the least diverse company I've ever worked for and the groupthink there is at a level you would see in a cult.
Everyone gets to the top by stroking the ego of those above them. When management has a brainfart and decides that the latest thought from Silicon Valley is what we should adopt, how do you, the lowly employee tell these

Aren't all these evil people who want to dominate, just trying to save the world?
The great evils are caused by people who think they can save us all.

Those who wish to dominate think of themselves first, and no one else.
They soon discover they can not do it all by themselves and must either work with or have others work for them. Non-skilled labor will work
for near nothing because they lack the bargaining power a person with a special skillset has. Even with skilled laborers, they'll discover the reason some employees demaned more money, and you get what you pay for when you go the cheaper route.
Regarding the brown nosing game, the reason why an employee that
appears to be incompetent can stay around is because they have
something else to offer or appear to know more about the people who run the operation.
At the moment, even unskilled workers, at least in Australia, have good bargaining power. Some are earning more than I am, as a professional, simply because of supply/demand.
What will happen, is the government will bring in hundreds of thousands of migrants to depress wages. Thats really what keeps low skilled workers cheap, not the workers value themselves.

australia needs a fucking revolution. i dont know how the govt can
treat those people like that. ---
There is no chance that Australian's will go against the government in the way
they need to. Thats why Australia is the testbed for New World Order style programs, people just go along.

Before COVID, didn't they have a growing group of people who were not wanting to go along with the government?
