Are you referring to mobile phone operating systems or operating
systems in general? I suppose Android is fine if you're a basic user
who doesn't require a lot of flexibility. I am fairly basic in my technology use... I no longer use a PC for anything other than games. I use my iPad and iPhone for everything else: web-browsing,
Skype/Facetime, instant-messaging, YouTube, e-mails, digital online
radio, banking, photo-editing, music and GPS/maps, etc...
Mobile, I use both iOS and Android. Why? Because they're different. iOS has all you describe, but for everyday things, Android can do much the same, it just does it differently. But fr me, the diffeences are significant.
iOS has better support for some of my sports training needs. There's a number of apps for timing and performance analysis that have no equivalents on Android, with one exception, where it's the other way around. I also prefer iOS for my daily use.
Android, however, has better ham radio support, with DroidStar, DVSwitch, APRSDroid and SDRTouch, which you can use an RTL-SDR dongle with (by means of an OTG cable), to have a fully featured portable SDR receiver.
So both for me.
And there's still the need for full featured deskyop and laptops here. But I do a lot more than social media and web browsing. I'll also make the observation that doing social media on the new iPhone that I have can be quicker than catching up on the desktop.
... Da trouble wit computers is, dey got no sense of humor.
