I like BlueNote BBS for some cool mod music; the amount won't blow you away or anything, but its curated and I haven't downloaded much fluff. Worth a perusing.

Be sure to checkout The Quantum Wormhole BBS, and his chiptunes style radio station. Further, there are files to download that MeaTLoTioN curated and again... light on the fluff, heavy on the hard.

You can always goto modarchive.org ... they have GIGABYTES of .MODs... you can spin up random stuff or search; problem I've had is that they have so much archived stuff, its hard to find good curated lists. :/ However, if you wanna pull tons of content and sort thru yourself - this is the largest archive I've found online. I prefer just spinning up the radio @ TQW, or downloading @ BlueNote... but the web seems to have the biggest fish- good luck with all the seaweed.

Killer. I'll be sure to check out both soon. I've been listening to Keygen-FM after being directed to modarchive.org.

Yes, I would have to agree that one of the big isses is curation. Hopefully I find this radio station soon so it can take the load off me selecting music for a little while.

Oh crap, that takes me back. I used to love playing MOD files, with some snazzy fullscreen player showing all kinds of visualizations. They sounded amazing in a world of crappy beeps and boops.

Unfortunately I don't, and I've heard from others that trying to use VoIP to emulate a modem isn't reliable. I saw an LGR video about some kinda Expansion Slot card that makes retro computers able to connect to telnet via wifi, but that's kinda the exact opposite of my use case. I would need to connect some modern hardware to a modem.

Know of any cheap solutions?

I've since resorted to the simpler option of ocassionally swithing to youtube and pulling up playlists. The one I'm listing to now visualizes in Impulse Tracker v 2.14 (C) 1995-1998 Jeffrey Lim.

I'm trying to get a system set up with a window manager that uses software like that to play mod tracker music. Adds to the asthetic I'm going for.

Modern hardware to a modem isn't too tricky. There are a few different breeds of USB to RS232 adaptor which are cheap. I'm using a PL2303 one which cost about £15 ($20?). This should give you a COM port (on Windows) or equivalents on other OSs, which you can point terminal software to. Then of course you'd need a modem and a phone line. I'm not sure how it would fare with VoIP. I sometimes call a US board, but I think there's sufficient fibre optics or even VoIP in the network now that those connections don't seem to work too well. Maybe that's just that one board - I need to do some more research. But trans-Atlantic calling is still quite costly, especially when we've become used to "free" telnet (me included).

over an hour to get this up and
running. I am patting myself on the
back for his one. I barely remember
windows 98... so emulating a commodore
was way out of my element!

f a delay on each key press.
