There are a few things that you need to be aware of here. Your telnet IP address is going to be the address of the system that you are running this
on. If you are running this on a home network, you are likely running
Network Address Translation (NAT for short) which means the system is not accessable from the internet without making some adjustments to your router
to forward specific ports through to internal IP addresses. Most routers
call this port forwarding.
Most ISP's will periodically change your public facing IP address, so you
will want to get a hostname, I use noip.com which is free for a basic
account (I pay them but i want some extras).
assuming you are running under windows you can get the IP address of a
machine running on your network by typing "cmd" in the search bar and then typing "ipconfig" at the prompt. You will see output similar to what I
pasted below. the IPv4 address is the IP address.
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.55.63
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.55.1
You will also want to know your public facing IP address if you want somebody outside your network to connect to your bbs (once you set up the port forwarding). You can find this by typing "what is my ip" in a google search bar. At the top of your search results you will be shown your public IP address.
Hope this helps.
