Now, not exactly familiar with how passing messages between echoes in different zones work so after some advice on where to track down the disconnect, if there is one.

Hi all,
I have a user on my board who is trying to post to the WHAT'S_HOT!
echo. He claims he can see traffic on another board. When I checked,
that board is in Zone 2 (Finland). I have never had any traffic in
that echo.
Now, not exactly familiar with how passing messages between echoes in different zones work so after some advice on where to track down the disconnect, if there is one.
I hope this is the right forum for my question.

If I understand correctly, then I'd check the PATH and SEEN-BY lines.

I don't suppose the reason the group isn't being propagated to zone 1 is because it doesn't exist on your system? I logged in and checked and it see you don't have WHAT'S_HOT!

Same request has come to me and I am checking with Janis's star system to check
if I am connected and if not to do so.
I am 'assuming' that it is on the Fido echo list though.

I am not responsible for the distribution of Echomail in Zone 1, I only peer with other systems just like you do.

Ah ok. Being Z1C I thought that'd be your job. See how little I know. So, whose job is it, if any?
I'm not sure this really helps much. Al (1:153/757) replied to my posting i WHAT'S_HOT! on 2:221/360

Anyone can create an echo and grow it through word-of-mouth and have
many systems peering and meshing together to have it distributed everywhere. If I don't have your echo, its likely only because it
hasn't been brought to my attention to carry it or peer with someone
who has it.
Ever since Fidonet mail distribution went onto the Internet basically full-time, it's just been barely controlled chaos with the echoes but you'r absolutely right about peering with others to carry an echo. Most sysops i Fidonet these days don't realize that echomail is an add-on to Fidonet and that netmail is what Fidonet was really about.

I'm sure the PATH and SEENBY lines mean something to someone.

You need to re-read Policy 4 as the ZC's job, along with the RC's and NC's jobs, are clearly defined in it. The ZC is basically a glorified nodelist creator, that's it. It's your NC's and RC's job to deal with echomail problems.
Would you please add WHAT'S_HOT! and see if that helps? That might be all w need since it's on my hub who connects to you.

Done and appears working.
It does. Now, we need to go through all the hundreds of echos and see which ones you're missing :)

Would Janis need to add them her system too? I looked at her list and
WHAT'S_HOT! appears at the bottom, so I assume you both need the echoes listed
for them to filter down to Marc Lewis.
The Zone 1 backbone Stars consist of myself, Dallas Hinton and Mark Lewis@1:3634/12. I'll also contact Marc Lewis@1:396/45 to let him know there is a new BACKBONE.NA for him to apply, though he may have taken care of that already.
