Hi to everybody, I'm a newbie sysop, I'm trying to start up a small bbs.
I'm sorry for my bad english.
Well, I have a pc celeron/366 64Mb, it is plugged inside a slot A motherboard. I put an external modem 33.6 over com1 and one ISDN adapter
in slot isa over com3.
All hardware is used, you know what I mean, it's all cheap and old
hardware because it's only an hobby and i try to save up money ;). My software for the bbs is lora bbs, it's an italian software.
Well lora doesn't run because it seems that the pc hasn't fossil drivers installed. Damn!! All modem, and isdn adapter run very well in
windows98. For example hyperterminal runs very well and there is no
troubles or software warfare over IRQ values. My operating system is the
old windows98, and Hyperterminal works very good with 33.6modem.
Lora bbs, also all bbs sotfware need fossil drivers to work. I updated
the fossil drivers but they don't run, they freeze my pc. Old realese of fossil drivers doesn't run but they don't freeze windows. Fossil drivers doesn't work, and I don't know why. Fossil detects only the external
modem over com1 (none over com3 with isdn adapter damn! why not?), at
least fossil print an error message and it stops. It says error over a serial port and also lora bbs says fossil drivers aren't installed.
My bbs server doesn't run.
Actually an italian sysop is trying to help me, he says it may be a
software warfare in IRQ. IRQ:14 doesn't answer over fossil driver so
msdos doesn't run. My pc doesn't boot under msdos type, it freezes and a black screen show only a prompt flashing. Nobody runs over msdos boot. I format the hard disk 4 twice, I installed windows but it's the same problem, the pc doesn't reboot over msdos. May be a sotfware warfare
with my chipset or a virus? Wrong!, Nortorn antivirus doesn't detect any virus on my hard disk (I'm sure, I updated it last week, Dr norton
antivirus says to me, no virus detected!!).
Well, I check out the problem; what's wrong in IRQ:14? In IRQ:14 there
is installed the hard disk controller also the viatech motherboard
chipset controller. I try to change manually the irq in IRQ:14, (the
hard disk controller ot the motherboard controller) but at least windows doesn't change them. May be the chipset controller doesn't release che
IRQ14 and msdos doesn't access over the system resource.
Is there anybody here?
Is there anybody can help me?
I'd like to run my bbs over isdn and modem, but i'dont know how to
resolve the problem.

I've never heard of a version of SBBS that is web only. Telnet, ftp, nntp, pop3, smtp, etc... but a version of Synchronet that ONLY does http? When did
that happen? Did I miss something? lol
