  • Would using a VPN hide one's IP when posting to Usenet?

    How does one use Tor, a web browser, to post to usenet?

    You have to configure your Newsreader to use a proxy port with
    either port 9050 (tor.exe) or port 9051 (Tor Browser Bundle).

    If your Newsreader does not support a proxy port setting, you
    have to configure your Newsreader with socat.exe.

    I checked my full headers. You're right. The IP isn't in them. I guess
    I could change newsreaders, which does show up, and still be a bit more
    'anon' - that word being used very loosely.

    I'd like to hide a bit because of the moronic trolls who don't like an
    opinion I expressed and start trolling me. It's a nuisance.

    I see you use ForteAgent, so try this:

    When configuring ForteAgent for Tor usage add in the preferences
    menu, where you set your full user name, nntp server and port this:

    nntp server: 127.0.0.1
    port: 5870

    Download socat.exe from here, for example:

    https://github.com/valorisa/socat-1.8.0.1_for_Windows

    Then create a configuration file for socat, which looks like this:

    socat tcp4-listen:5870,fork socks4a:127.0.0.1:paganini.bofh.team:119,socksport=9051

    Start Tor Browser and then socat.exe with this configuration file first
    in cmd.exe and then your Newsreader.

    Your Newsreader will then connect to the free Newsserver paganini.bofh.team.

    Instead of using Tor Browser you can download tor.exe from here:

    https://www.torproject.org/download/tor/

    and then change in the socat configuration file the port from 9051 to 9050.
