I'm getting a weird vibe from this.
One, after 1 year of an investigation into the "Adam" child's torso (a
torso
"without head or limbs", according to the BBC World Service radio), there
was an arrest of one man in Ireland, which allegedly was connected.
Did you see the excellent documentary investigation on this a few mths back?
It explained the police investigation and the trail which led back to
Nigeria and then to suspects in Britain.
Briefly, pioneering scientific investigation of the little boy's remains suggested he originated from a particular area in Nigeria near Benin City,
and had only been in Britain for a relatively short while. Many aspects
pointed to a ritual sacrifice of a type which is not uncommon in that area. Metropolitan Police visited the area and trawled through likely villages in
the area trying to find a parent, neighbour or whatever who was missing a
child matching the remains.
The child's route into Britain was identified through Germany and then
through a seaport into Britain. The clothes on his torso originated in
Germany: examination of security tapes from the seaport (can't remember
which one) eventually identified a possible picture of the boy being brought in.
Immigration checks on re-entrants from Nigeria threw up a suspect, a woman
who then resided in Glasgow but had recently been at an address in London. I read on Teletext that it is this woman's estranged husband who was arrested
in Ireland. He had disappeared following her detention and interview by Immigration officials. She was DNA tested to check for a blood relationship
to "Adam", but the profiles didn't match. I understand (again from Teletext) that the suspects picked up today will be similarly DNA tested.
Two, today there is this huge arrest of twenty some people from Nigeria,
by tens of fully kitted out police, allegedly to in connection with the
boy,
but if you read closer, it's really about visa and immigration
violations.

I infer that "Adam" wasn't the only child brought in illegally through this route. It's not unusual for an investigation into one crime to uncover
evidence of others.
Three, this huge arrest happens to be on the same day that the nigerian president is in Downing Street.
This may or may not be a coincidence. I wouldn't be surprised if government-to-government contact of some kind preceded these raids.
Certainly the Metropolitan Police had already liaised with Nigerian police during their visit above, as shown in the documentary.
Four, this is on the same day that the UN starts an awareness campaign
about child trafficking.
Coincidences?? What's going on? It seems like a giant publicity stunt.
But for what - new, draconian legislation? Racial profiling? Is this an attempt to try and paint reality as if there is some huge problem out
there, in order to justify draconian legislation?
They're all out to get us, obviously. Where's my tinfoil hat?
What I think, is that maybe the original child was a subject of a crime.
An unfortunate one, however, going from "a exotic knife may have been
used" to going around to chasing down voodoo priests in South Africa
and Nigeria is a bit of a leap. And nobody is talking about "muti
killings"
anymore, but they're now clinging to "voodoo" curses.
The Muti theory proved a red herring - Metropolitan Police visited South
Africa and discussed the case with locals knowledgeable in this who were
sure it was not a Muti killing. This was also in the documentary.
The banal explanation, is that when the limbs and head are removed
from a body, it implies that the perpetrator is a close acquantance of
the victim. A parent, a direct relative, caregiver, teacher, etc.
Presumably one reason behind the DNA testing of the suspects.
One gruesome possibility mentioned in the programme was that the little
boy's head might be retained as a 'charm' keeping the power of the sacrifice near the killer.
Also, the obsession that this child came from Nigeria, because
there were some minerals found from that region. Two words:
"clay tablets". Pregnant women sometimes eat those as a mineral
supplement. You can probably get those in many "ethnic" stores.
The reasons were much more than that, as explained above.
I'd add that it's heartening that so much effort has been dedicated to
pursuing this case by the Metropolitan Police, it would have been easy to
see it as "just" a puzzling mystery only worth a cursory investigation. The officers involved have shown real compassion for the fate of this little
boy, and commitment to bringing his killers to justice.
