Is it possible to log on to my machine programmatically?

I run some important nightly processes on my machine at work.
I am on windows 2000.
We have been getting a lot of power outgages at night.
I will come in the next morning to find the login prompt on my monitor
and my processes left undone.
Can programs run on windows 2000 if a user is not logged in?
Is it possible to write a program to check my authentication status
and log "me" in if I am not logged in?
