Does anybody know how to reformat the hard disk and reinstall the OSjust set your bios to boot from cd
and drivers on a Mitsubishi Amity CN with no floppy drive?
I'd like to reformat the disk and install Windows 98 and Debian. I
have a CD-ROM, a parallel port zip drive, and access to drives on my
desktop via the network, but no floppy drive.
I wish I could, but my bios only allows me to boot from a: or c:. Is
there some way to get around that? Thanks.
I assume you are able to boot into the original OS on this computer,
Windows 95, and can use its network capability to transfer files from
your network. It looks like you can begin by installing Debian, (but I'm
not sure about your secondary goal of installing Windows 98 with no
floppy and no bootable CD). Steps:
1. Read necessary Debian documentation.
2. Download Debian files to your hard disk.
3. Boot into "Safe Mode." (DOS)
4. Begin installation with "install.bat"
I glanced at this Debian document: http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/install
Here are the specific instructions: http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/ch-rescue-boot.en.html#s-install-drive
Here is the readme (from a fine mirror): ftp://sunsite.ualberta.ca/pub/Linux/debian/debian/dists/Debian3.0r1a/main/disks-i386/3.0.23-2002-05-21/README.txt
