I'm running SP1 and certain ports seem to be closed or partially
closed to WAN internet connections. Symptoms are that I cannot
get outside connections to my FTP, I can't receive file transfers
via ICQ and external pop3 checking dies after about 36 hours. A
system reboot fixes the pop3 (port 110) traffic problem.
I can connect to outside FTP servers but no-one can connect to
mine yet I can connect to it internally (ie via the LAN), so the
FTP server is working normally. This problem would usually lead
me to believe that there's a firewall running in the background,
but XP's firewall is not activated on *any* connection and my
personal firewall does not start automatically on boot up. All
tests have been carried out after a clean boot.
I have tested with a dial up and the lan disabled, also via my
dsl connection via the router. Web, usenet, normal ICQ messaging
all work fine but port 8080 is also closed to outside
connections.
Any ideas please?
