    How do you mean?

    The connectors seem perfectly standard.

The sort of connectors they sell in electronics shops here have a clamp
around the edge of the D-shell - it protrudes and reduces the depth of the connector when used in something like the Iigs which has a D shell shaped opening in the back panel, rather than just a rectange large enough to cover the mounting screws, holes and an area around them.

Unfortunately it is almost impossible to find a suitable monitor. The monochrome picture I get when using the modulator isn't fun at all.
Is there any possibility to connect a non-Apple RGB monitor? (I have a
    few Commodore RGB monitors.)

The Commodore monitors should be usable but you'll need an adaptor.

    1. You can make an adaptor yourself. In addition the the already
presented links here is one for SCART: http://vintageware.orcon.net.nz/apple2/scart.html

    2. You can buy a ready to use cable (please note that I have no
    experiences with this shop):
    http://vintageware.orcon.net.nz/scart.html

Commodore PAL-monitors often support 60 Hz, too, so you could probably
use the higher refresh rate (at least my 1081 works). You can set your
GS to either 50 or 60 Hz in the control panel.

I'm thinking about making an adaptor myself because the usable screen
width of the Apple monitor is less than 90% (vertical size is
adjustable). Which is unfortunate because the screen size is small to
    begin with.

Thanks for your answers! Good to know it is possible. If the partes
needed are available in my region I'll try to make my own adapter,
otherwise I'll be thinking about ordering one of the cables from New
    Zealand. Georg
