• Using the power of the C128 for better gfx/music ?

Most C128 I knew back in the 80s only knew one command in 128 mode -
    "Go64"...

Are there any demos showing the potential of the C128 - for example
even better SID pieces using more RAM or the faster CPU ?
Or something like a soundtracker - player that can play higher quality
    AMIGA music modules ?
Or something like the program Softsynth on the ATARI 800 (the music of
the "World of Wonders" demo was created with this prgram) ?

Or better graphics with more colors etc. ? That means a mode even
better than FLI , IFLI , various interlace modes etc ?

Is it possible to multiplex more sprites or is that limited by the VIC
    ?

I donīt know many C128 games from the 80s , only 1 Infocom adventure
(Trinity) and some programs like GEOS , but there is not much C128
    stuff.
Do you think the C128 came to late because ATARI already had the ATARI
    ST ?

Oh boy, there is one that will make your jaws drop!
    Risen From Oblivion by Crest

Then there are a few demos that make use of the C128 even when run in C64
    mode.
Deus Ex Machina/Crest (the endpart with the X-rotating textures runs much smoother on a C128)
Insomnia/64ever: The 3D tunnels use the 2 MHz in the upper/lower borders and run noticably smoother.

There are a few more that take advantage from the C128 mode, but the above
two are the most impressive ones to mention.

    - for example
even better SID pieces using more RAM or the faster CPU?

Not that I heard of. I think you can't really improve the SID by a faster
CPU. There are already multispeed tunes that feed the SID 63 times per frame (see HVSC: /VARIOUS/G-L/Julian_Jaymz/63_speed_music_1.sid), I doubt you can increase soundquality any more by increasing that multiplier.
I can imagine that it would be pretty nice using the increased RAM for
playing back more or higher quality digi samples. The Last V8 did that,
    AFAIK.

    AMIGA music modules ?

Yep, see Risen From Oblivion, they expanded FLI into the borders and did
more nasty VIC tricks. Probably Graham can explain that to us in a little
    more detail.

Not much, true. But still a few more than you mentioned, just check Arnold.

    Regards,
    Stephan

Most of Graham's/Oxyron demos take advantage of switching CPU to 2MHz on
border area. It makes a difference comparing to plain C64.

No it came too late because of the AMIGA! ;)

It was released about the same time. 1985-1986.

Check Risen from Oblivion/Crest, there are both VIC-parts and VDC-parts.

    Also, Higher Level/Lower Level has a VDC-part.
